Now when i look back to the days I was using water base pomades, I wonder what I was thinking in putting all these gawd awful chemicals in my hair.
My hair looks better, I'm not getting allergic reactions, it's far less expensive, and I can reapply every other day rather than every day with water based pomades. I'm so glad I finally changed over to oil pomades. Water base pomade is just awful stuff in my opinion. That stuff gave me either helmet hair or the look of having a jar of grape jelly poured over my hair and combed neatly. The water based pomade gave me the same look I would get with gel. I noticed I like the look of my hair A LOT more with oil base pomade in it than with water base pomade. I just wish I had used the oil based pomades from the get go because I would have saved countless dollars and saved myself from all the allergic reactions from the chemical in the water based pomades. In a last ditch effort to find a product that I could use to style my wild hair, I turned to oil based pomades and I've never looked back. However, after countless allergic reactions, some of them really bad from the tons of chemicals in the water based pomades, I had to quit using them altogether. I was like many of the people in preferring to use water base pomades when I first started out. They don't find out for themselves, which is sad because it leaves them with just one choice in using the water base stuff. The thing is, a lot of pomade users never even try oil base pomades because they're scared away immediately by people on the internet or by friends. If you're good with all those pluses and minuses, then water base pomade is the one for you. The trade off is it costs a lot for the pomade, it's loaded with chemicals, and your hair is not going to look as good as a person with oil base pomade. people want ease of use, and you get that with water base pomades. The gels have been renamed and are now called "pomades', but with a higher price tag. They don't realize that it's retro product from the 90s when gels were in fashion. Unfortunately, I don't think Dapper Dan would sell if it were a petroleum base pomade right now, because most pomade users now are using the water based stuff. That definitely is NOT water base/gel pomade.

The name Dapper Dan likely gave them quick sales of their water base pomade, but I expect the demand will slow over time because how many people remember the movie? There will probably fewer and fewer people buying the stuff unless the movie is played a lot on cable.Īs for the type of pomade used in the movie, it looks very, very similar to Murray's Superior both in the tin and with the look that Clooney is getting with his hair. As such, they chose to use the fictional name of the product for their goo. The person or company that decided to use the Dapper Dan name for their water base pomades they're selling now probably understands that there is far more demand for water base pomades nowadays than the oil base pomades. Phog, the pomade George Clooney used in the movie was clearly a petroleum based pomade rather than a water base/gel pomade.
